The Zoological Museum Cluj-Napoca

Established in 1859, the Zoological Museum of “Babes-Bolyai” University currently has over 300,000 pieces. The Zoological Museum is located at the ground floor of the Faculty of Biology and Geology, the plan according to which this building was built being identical with that of the Zoology Institute in Naples.

In the basic exhibition, rare animals or extinguished species are exhibited, such as: the bearded vulture and the bald vulture, both species definitively extinguished from the fauna in our country, the platypus and echidna from Australia.

The museum is divided in three exhibition categories: the actual exhibition, which comprises a large number of vertebrates and invertebrates exhibited so that they reproduce a natural environment; the scientific collections, comprising over 300,000 animal specimens, most of them insects and the museum reserve, which biological material is exhibited in temporary conditions.
