The Orthodox Church Of "ratestilor" Turda Turda

The church of Ratestilor located on Gheorghe Lazar Street, no. 17-19, is one of the imposing baroque monuments in Transylvania, founded by the Romanian noble family of Turda, Ratiu family. In 1839, Basiliu Ratiu bought a property in the city centre of Turda to build a Greek Catholic church and a cemetery.

Originally the church was built in a vessel style specific to the basilical style, with a bell tower built on three floors to the west and a classic semicircular apse to the east that corresponded to the altar. In 1939, to celebrate the centennial, the two lateral semicircular apses to the east and west were added, which led to the transformation of the church plan from the one in the shape of a vessel at the one in shape of a cross inscribed with specific elements of the Byzantine style.
